Surah Al-Fatiha, the opening chapter of the Qur’an, isn’t just recited; it’s a divine dialogue, a sacred conversation where Allah (God) responds to each verse, making it a living communication of devotion and a path to spiritual connection, especially during daily prayers (Salah).

A sacred tradition (hadith qudsi) describes this dialogue beautifully. Allah says, “I have divided the prayer between Myself and My servant into two halves, and My servant shall have what he has asked for.”

The Dialogue Breakdown

  • You recite, “All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds.”
    • Allah’s Response: “My servant has praised Me.”
  • You recite, “The Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.”
    • Allah’s Response: “My servant has extolled Me.”
  • You recite, “Sovereign of the Day of Recompense.”
    • Allah’s Response: “My servant has glorified Me” (or related all matters to Me).
  • You recite, “It is You we worship, and You we ask for help.”
    • Allah’s Response: “This is between Me and My servant, and My servant shall have what he has asked for.”
  • You recite, “Guide us to the straight path, the path of those You have blessed, not those who have earned Your anger, nor those who are lost.”
    •  Allah’s Response: “This is for My servant, and My servant shall have what he has asked for.”
